1ST of April every year is one of the days radio lovers always look forward to and no, I’m not talking about the April fool’s day here but I’m talking about the transformation in radio stations. Yup! Change is good sometimes and this particular one takes most radio personalities to greener pastures of life and well, unfortunately others end up losing their jobs and no matter how happy/unhappy listeners are, they learn to adapt to those changes and life continues.

One of the most shocking news of all is 5FM’S announcement about the departure of Gareth Cliff. Most people didn’t see this one coming, considering the fact that he’s been with 5FM for the past ten years. Cliff announced on Monday that he’s leaving 5FM. Most people (me included) thought it was just an April fool’s day joke but later realised that it was real.
The station programming manager Tim Zunckel said: “5FM is enormously appreciative of Gareth’s incredible work ethic, his dedication to his listeners and support of the 5FM brand. The station thanks Gareth for his exceptional ten years of on-air presence as well as being an ambassador for the station, we wish him the very best in future.”
After her long journey with Gauteng youth based radio station YFM, from today onwards, Metro FM listeners will be blessed with the voice of the unstoppable Bonang “Queen B’ Matheba. The Sunday world reported that “Queen B” will be replacing former SABC continuity presenter Siphokazi January in the mid-morning slot (9am-12pm) who will be doing the midday show. Earlier today, Matheba tweeted: “Proud to announce my new radio show, The Front Row!! Starts today at 9am on @METROFMSA! Tune in”
Matheba is not the only one who bid farewells to the listeners of YFM. According to Sunday world, DJ Warras is set to replace Roger Goode on the 7-9pm slot. Goode will be moved to another slot. One can tell that YFM has made some major changes in their line up; DJ Mo flava will still be with YFM, doing the afternoon drive show. Sizwe,Scoop and Tumi Voster have also left the station.
