STREET -WISE
Street-Wise is a South African based organisation that is Non Governmental. It was started in December 1998. The first branch was opened in Durban, and the next one that followed was opened in Pretoria. Street-wise works with street kids, taking them out of the streets, re- conciliating them with their families, and taking them back to their communities. With the amount of kids living on the streets this organisation has taken it upon its themselves to offer life skills training and social skills training. This empowers the youth, mainly boys because Street-Wise is focused on boys aged seven to eleven. So far its managed to facilitate 52 boys giving these boys hope for their futures, allowing them to set goals for themselves. Often communities isolate these children and this may lead them to turning to crime or even drugs. Street-wise facilitates re-integration into the community for these young boys. These boys get counselling because most of them left home because of factors like poverty, abuse, community violence and neglect. Every child in street-wise is placed into formal education with all cost of fees and uniform, are provided being by Street-Wise.
