The child of an Anglo American employee who was killed last month during the mine worker’s strike in Rustenburg is facing hopeful future prospects. The company has offered to employ him in his father’s previous work. Twenty three year old, Rebaone Mokgwapha’s father Ellias was allegedly murdered by striking mineworkers. The boy had planned to finish his studies next year but his father’s murder has severely impacted those possibilities as result of financial difficulty.
Initially the company had declined his family’s request for support. Rebaone’s uncle, David Tsepe said that Anglo American had not given much reasoning, but to say that they would not be able to help. Yesterday when spokeswoman, Mpumi Sithole, heard of the family’s allegations she subsequently revealed that Rebaone would be employed.
“He will be trained and work where his father used to work before he died,” she said.
Hopefully this is not an empty promise.
