Last night, millions of viewers bid farewell to newsreader, Riaan Cruywagen who retired from his television role after 37 years of service.
Love him or hate him, the dude sure is appreciated and and stands to be one of the longest continuing presences on South African television and TV news. Cruywagen said goodbye to vieweres at 19:00pm during the Nuus om 7 on Monday evening.
Riaan’s farewell was followed by an hour long TV special on SABC 2 which no one seemed to know about before hand.
I must admit that I’m not quite sure that the Afrikaans news will ever be the same without the man many of us grew up on, whether we liked him or not.
Though he has been a better role model in media than most, his brown-orange hair (or is that a wig?) that seems to remind our Production Manager, Huda of hazelnuts-will probably be remembered most!
Live salutes our favourite Afrikaans tutor for his great work and is rather skeptical of who we’ll be introduced to next!
