Tehran – Iran has relaunched plans to send a monkey into space after they failed to do so in an attempt 2 years ago.

“The final tests for launching the capsule, carrying a monkey, have been completed,” said Hamid Fazeli, Chief of Iran’s Space Organisation.

The launch is scheduled to take place during a 10-day period starting sometime at the end of this month.

Iran has already sent small animals into space which includes a rat, turtles and worms. According to Fazeli, the launch of the monkey would help “implement the preparations for sending a man into space” which is planned for the year 2020.

Iran’s outer space programmes has unsettled Western nations as they fear that the success and development of these programmes could be used by Iran to create nuclear missiles for terror attacks.

Iran has however denied that this is what they plan to do, saying that their space projects are purely for scientific and not military purposes.
