In the past two weeks we said goodbye to several of our colleagues and friends here at Live. Some moved on to work and others started or continued study programs.
I was moved by this a lot more than usual because I had grown close to most of the group and for the least, we could get on well and even enjoy each other’s company.
When you’re working with your peer group and you all come from diverse backgrounds, it is easy for conflict or tension to arise – given you don’t necessarily understand or agree with each other and more than likely are still trying to figure things out in your new work environment, which is pressure and deadline driven.
The team on this issue taught me the power of tolerance, and even more so the simplicity of enjoying and embracing people as they are. I remember Friday afternoon’s spent listening to 90’s classics and singing along to songs like ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’, and collecting spare changes to buy snacks when the group of us was in the mood.
I made friends, good friends – and these people have taught me if you just try to accommodate others a little and put your differences aside, going to work can be a lot more fun, FOR ALL.
Best wishes to Dewandre, Tiny, Soyiso, Nsindiso who have all started work elsewhere and designers, Huda and Rafiek who have both received news of being accepted into respective design learnerships!
