Decio Lourenco (24), a Cape Town skateboarder, filmed skating down Kloof Nek road in Tamboerskloof is set to be prosecuted for reckless road behaviour. The skater set off the 60km/h with a noted speed of 100km/h.
Safety and security mayoral committee member JP Smith told the Cape Times that Lourenco would not be given the option to pay a fine for his negligent conduct. “The case will be opened with the police and we will ask the director of public prosecutions to prosecute.”
A video of the skateboarding act, titled “Spoofing the Cam-Kloof Nek” was uploaded onto Youtube and viewed more than 160 000 times.
Smith said there is no way the city would be unbanning skating on public roads. The bylaw specifies that skating is only allowed on public roads if the roads have been specifically designed for that purpose.
