Cheesekids for Humanity is a non-profit organisation run buy young people and seeks to encourage the culture of community service in the youth. It was established in 2007 by Shaka Sisulu after taking part in a habitat for humanity event with a bunch of his friends.
Cheesekids organises activities where young people can volunteer their time. Activities include cleaning schools, tutoring, building, painting and plastering houses to name a few. Each event ends of at a local Tshisa-nyama (Braai spot) to celebrate the great work done for the day (another awesome reason to go!).
Cheesekids is currently operating in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban with branches in East Londn and Polokwane being launched soon.
Volunteers are usually between the ages of 18 to 35 and joining is super easy. One can register on the website (www.cheesekids.org.za), by joining a mailing list, liking the page on Facebook (Cheesekids for Humanity) or following @cheesekids on twitter. Periodically, they will receive notice of events and activites and one can go to as many events as you wish.
Cheesekids is bringing the fun back into giving back!
