The weekend was a busy one in Johannesburg and we had the privilege of attending one of the biggest music festivals happening in Melville. Together with the Live crew Polly Sekwala and photographer, Khabazela Mkhize we invaded the Fete de la Musique 2013 festival. Stretched along Melville’s popular 7th Street, people rocked their various fashion styles to hang out and listen to some good music from some of local artists plus French DJs.
Some of the local famous boutiques like the MSC Boutique had the opportunity to showcase and sell their latest fashionable items. There were also some small markets from local and French crafters who were out to make some good business. As we enjoyed our slushes (flavoured soft drink), we smelled some good BBQ burgers. There also many other food stalls aligned on 4th Avenue for many to indulge at a perfect price.
“This is our first time at Fete de la Musique festival but not at a French festival. We are hoping for a huge crowd to come see us perform..,” said the guys from The Muffinz in our quick chat before they took to the stage that evening.
7th Street was filled with over 30 performances within restaurants and bars. Some of my favourites were Nakhane Toure, Bongeziwe Mabandla, The Muffinz and DJ Ayo from France.
