Just to clear the air, I know a lot of people think that Gugu Skiti and Gugu Nonjinge are two different people, well they are not. It’s one of those uninteresting long stories, yes I am (Gee-Skiti).
I am just an ordinary 20-year-old girl from Mount Frere and grew up in the rural areas ( Ezilalini ) .
Growing up I never knew I would be where I am today, but yes I had visions and dreams of being part of a Magazine. This dream was influenced by the love I have for clothes and FASHION. Although I never thought I would be interested in writing stories, I knew I wanted to give my own views and opinion about clothes .
Growing up in a female dominated household, its was hard not to fall in love with the smell of vintage fabric from the clothes my grandmother had kept for many years. Even to this day I still call my gran to ask her about the prints, or colours I should mix before dressing up, it even reached a point where I had to send her pictures of what I wore each day.
I know every girl loves clothes but to me fashion and clothes have a whole different meaning, I believe it has mysterious power over people, perhaps in an overwhelming sense. I spent most of my teenage years in a boarding school in Kwazulu Natal but from a young age, fashion gave me a reason to feel at home when ever I was away.
“So why are you in CPT ??” I only moved to CPT in 2011 when I was going to university ( UCT ), but to cut a long interesting story short, I knew even though I was a Commerce student and media was something totally different, I had to start somewhere so I had my own Talk Show at UCT Radio for 2years, then I decided to try out print media and so I joined Live Magazine 🙂 and now I’m a writer and Production Manager for the magazine .
