Guest Contributor Zimkhitha Naldi Cweba sent us this beautiful dedication to the Lonmin Miners who were killed in Marikana.
The African sun rose today to bid you farewell as you sat in the heat all day, in traditional gear you dressed for a struggled that would end in your defeat.
My father today your body laid dead in the dust as the sun slowly went down, the African soil now reddened with your blood it slowly flowed to nurture the earth’s roots.
My son the day has came when the skies will pour just like my tears to wash your blood away but my pain will forever be my reminder.
My brother today I shall take you home with me to the green pastures we ran as children, but yesterday your screams made history as they shoot you down like the reminders of the past and yet no one took blame, your name never to be remembered it will fall on their lips instead as one of the 34 unknown…..unknown yet vocally loud.
My father…….my son…….my brother today we take you home where the land known’s no violence but peace and the rivers flow to sing praises to you its streams will forever chant your name and the hills echo voice .
As the world forgets I won’t.
