The authenticity of street style brings an edge in fashion. It’s a portrait of fashion innovation, exuding individuality in a collective sense that reflects current trends. I went around Braamfontein today searching for the fashionistas who epitomise street style and embrace the ever-increasing circles of fashion, those trends that go, come back, go and come back again.
Trends such as animal prints always reinvent themselves. Dungarees are a blast from the past but also weighs in with today’s trends and styles. The dummies, which were popular shoes in the late 90’s, are here. I even have a pair myself! As for the fellas, it was pretty fun seeing how they interact with fashion and aren’t camera shy. Friday’s rainy weather meant the ladies were rocking their boots, something for comfort and flair.
Street style can never be imitated; it resonates with the individual far beyond the clothes. An outfit is able to give you a perception of someone. Street style isn’t just leather, silk, zips and buttons – it’s the attitude of leather, the stillness of silk, joining two parts by zips, and dressing for your being, making a statement about who you are.
