After all he has done for the country, did they see this one coming? ANC Members?  His staff members?  The schools and tertiary institutions he attended during his lifetime? Samora and Graca’s children? I didn’t think so. I mean, who does that? Who in the history has ever done such?  Tata was indeed a humble human being.

Graca and Mandela

On February the 3rd, the dying wishes of the late former president of South Africa Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela were revealed. The executors and administrators: Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang, Judge President Themba Sangoni and advocate George Bizos SC briefed the media in a press conference that was held at the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory about Mandela’s will.

He may be in his grave now but let’s admit it: The man didn’t only touch lives and made a difference in people’s lives while he was still alive but he still does even though he’s no more. Someone would’ve made sure that in the will, benefits only his/her family members and maybe close friends but the global icon has left his staff members a R50000 each, ANC members 10%-30% of royalties, the schools he went to including the two well-known universities Fort hare and Wits benefited a R100000 each, his step –children from the widowed-wife Graca and the Late Mozambique President Samora  Machel, got R3 million each.

Zelda La Grange who has been his Personal Assistant for many years tweeted:  “An unexpected priceless gesture that left me humbled. its testament of the generosity of Madiba’s character that he acknowledged so many.”  Other staff members and ANC officials expressed gratitude.

WITS

Now everyone knows that the institutions like Wits University didn’t really need that money but to Madiba, it was vital because giving back to the community is what he always wanted, it’s actually those schools and institutions that made him who he was. In that way, he was trying to show gratitude and appreciation for what they did for him.

Now the public has been asking questions about Madiba’s Ex-wife, Winnie Madikizela Mandela on why he didn’t even leave her a single penny. The topic caused quite a stir on social networks people saying he should have at least left something for her as well. Ntsiki Mazwai tweeted:  “She was not just ANY ex-wife……..she co-built that legacy. A lot of women are ex- wives- but not every woman is a Winnie Mandela. Recognise.”

WINNIE

I personally, think that people should respect Tata’s wishes and let him rest in peace. If he wanted to leave something for Mam Winnie he would have, right?
