Clothes and manners do not make the man , but when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance. I definitely got this sense on Saturday morning while shooting with the gentlemen of BeSpokePHR. A clothing line made up of these three gentlemen Nkuli (Creative Director), Kwandile (Designer) and Jacob (Operations Manager). What makes them stand out is that they only design tailored made suits.
“One of the reasons we started this brand was because we saw a gap in the market, where we found that too many of our young men are still caught up in the saggy jeans and 2 chains. We all look the same and have the same generic ideas when it comes to style. We want to change the way men project themselves through fashion. We want to eliminate the cool factor because being cool is not cool enough these days,” said Nkuli. I always thought fashion was a women’s outlet, but after meeting the gentlemen of BeSpokePHR, I realize that men are very much aware of fashion; they are not afraid of it. Men also take initiative to dress up and look good even if there’s more variety for women. And what BeSpokeHR aims at innovating style rather than just fashion. Fashion is influenced by popular culture, whereas style is more of a connection to your clothes. There is a certain manner that goes with embracing style and not just fashion. “Designers have an emotional attachment to the clothes they make. Most times commercial stores such as Mr Price and Markhams take ideas from what they see in the streets and from aspiring designers and then dilute the story the person was trying to tell through their style.” ”Every aspect of life is going to come out in our designs.”
A sense of style is the answer to everything. A fresh way to approach a dull style is to perfect your point of view. Clothes are art -they are as much of an art form as a painting is, the mixing of colours, shapes and fabric. BeSpokePHR also aims to educate people about the business of fashion. “We are far behind and too busy looking at what everyone is doing ,when we need to be changing our mindsets and become inspired by that as artists,” says Jacob. Starting a movement where young men can pride themselves through their image. Appearance is the first thing people acknowledge when meeting you, and BeSpokePHR wants to be that brand that will give each customer their own dress sense. They will be coming out with a new winter range soon. Here are some of the looks you can look forward to.
