Election day has come and gone and now that the euphoria of the election has died down, everything seems to be settling back to normal. By “normal” we mean people are still striking for jobs and basic service and we still have one of the highest unemployment rates in the world. But that’s not all there is to it. We’re still the country that birthed the iconic Nelson Mandela and there are still efforts to realise his vision of a rainbow nation. We’ve made some significant strides but the biggest question is where do we go from here?

What do you want to see now that election day has passed?

“[I want] leaders with values that builds a nation and who do not lie to the people of SA,” tweeted Hannelene Mostert – one of our followers. “There’s nothing much to expect,” says Thapelo Mosiuoa pessimistically. “All I can do is ride out these five years and wait for the next election,” he concludes. Some are more optimistic in their expectations. “I’d like to see opposition parties hold the ruling party accountable. It makes the political sphere more interesting and keeps the ruling party on their toes,” adds Siyabonga Mkhasibe.

The politicians are done electioneering and are ready to close shop but VIP:Voice still here for you! We still want to know what’s happening in your community. Were you part of the 70% who told us they don’t always have enough food to feed their families? Or maybe you’re part of the 33% who reported protests turning violent in your community. Has any of that changed? Tell us! We want to know whether voting has brought about any change in your area or if the political parties kept any of those promises they made.
