Many say art is one factor that unites beyond race, class, and gender. This however, was not the vibe I felt last week at a few exhibitions I attended during this month’s First Thursdays. If you are not familiar with First Thursdays, on the first Thursday of every month, art lovers, art creators, and art critics go out and explore various exhibitions and cultural shows. The exhibitions happen in and around Cape Town’s city centre until there are no taxis at the rank for people like myself who live on the peripheries of the CBD.

So as expected the audience was predominantly white, sprinkled with a few elite black and coloured people. I’m assuming the reason most black and coloured folk don’t relate to art is that  such events are usually marketed online which would automatically mean only a select few are exposed to them.

On the gallery are a few images I captured at the different exhibitions I went to.
