We all know how house music is one of Mzansi’s most popular genres, forming part of SA’s musical. What better way to celebrate it than to have it come to life at a rooftop setup and having some of the best house heads hit the decks and take on the stage.
How You Feeling brought us yet another installation of the House Music Comes Alive event, which saw house music transcend into a magical live format. From the respected vinyl to Dj duo’s performing live, match that with a mix of lively personalities and a great rooftop setup in the heart of Jozi made for a beautiful evening of sights and sounds.
Greeted at the entrance by Jeep Cherokee’s and treated with complementary Grant’s Whisky, who formed part of the sponsors for the event, I walked into the space feeling so under dressed. The ladies, gawd damn the ladies, came dressed to the nines and the gents looking rather ravishing and stylish (I say that with ease okay).
Being a house music virgin (if you wanna call it that) and for those of us who just struggle to keep abreast with the House Music scene, I was quite delighted to jam to some live house music, and when I say LIVE I mean exactly that, I’m talking about a full band set up. But wait, it was also quite exciting to see some DJ’s who still have respect for the old school and played vinyls. The passion that came from some of the performances could have brought one to tears…
I got there just in time to catch Phonogenic killing it with his vinyl set, Sculptured Music also didn’t disappoint, but I fell in love with Mr Sam and his guitar. I’m done, finish with their set, it took me to another level. Confession from moi who was able to dance to their performance on a sober NOTE!. In addition to that, appearances from Sai and Ribatone, Micheal G, 60Hertz and Jazz Meloz just to name a few mixed in an exceptional house experience.

One of the biggest challenges to rocking a rooftop party is the weather. After mother nature decided to bless the event with her all cleansing showers (killing the rooftop vibes), and some silly beings not jamming to the idea of moving to an accommodating space, we saw the event finish off on the first floor, the organizers didn’t fail to accommodate us and the party continued to rock on another level, leaving everyone with enough room to dance the night away.
