Frenchman Daniel Marhely developed the first version of Deezer in 2006 and music streaming hasn’t been the same ever since. In the space of nine short years, Deezer has already managed to become a leader in the music streaming sector, challenging superpowers such as Spotify and Pandora. It took Deezer seven tumultuous years to finally be globally recognized but as of September 2013 their service is now available in 183 countries in the world – including South Africa.
Vodacom saw this as an opportunity to grow their audience and towards the end of 2014 announced an exclusive partnership with Deezer which will be included as a value-added benefit to their prepaid and contract deals.
Deezer has worldwide partnerships with major recording labels such as EMI, Sony, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. The platform has a catalogue of 35 million high quality local and international songs that you can access just by downloading the Deezer mobile app through Vodacom. The app is simple and easy to use and can integrate with your social media platforms so you can seamlessly share your favorite songs and albums with your friends.
Vodacom is currently running a special promotion where, once you download the app, you can have the premium package for free for the first two months then it’ll only cost you R59.99 per month going forward. Contract customers will be billed directly to their Vodacom accounts while prepaid customers will need to recharge with the equivalent amount of airtime once every month (much like Blackberry BIS) albeit keeping their option to cancel the service cost-free at any time of their choosing.
The premium version of the app will allow users to stream unlimited songs and albums in high quality anywhere, anytime and on any device. Being aware of the high data costs, Deezer will now allow users to stream music even without an internet connection. You can sync your favorite songs and albums to your mobile device and then play them from there, a very useful feature seeing that over 60% of South Africans still don’t have access to the internet

You can download the Deezer app from the Google Play Store, iPhone App Store, BlackBerry World App Store and Windows Phone App Store Store
