Serena makes history as the first athlete on Forbes’ Self-made Women
This week, the ever-inspiring Serena Williams made history as the first athlete to make the Forbes’ list for the World’s Richest Self-made Women. While the tennis star’s net worth amounted to $150 million in 2016, today, Serena comes in at No. 80 on the list with an estimated fortune of $225 million. Serena’s successes have accumulated as a result of endorsement deals with JPMorgan Chase and Nike. She has also recently launched a firm called Serena Ventures in an effort to invest on start-ups founded and focused on young women and people of color.

The list of Self-made women has expanded to 80 (a third more than a year ago) because of the increased amount of women staking their claim in spheres of entrepreneurship. Other women on the list include Rihanna (No. 37 at $600 million), Oprah (No. 10 at $2.5 billion) Kylie Jenner (No. 23 at $1 billion), Madonna (No. 39 at $570 million) Kim Kardashian West (No. 57 at $370 million) and Beyonce (No. 51 at $400 million).
We’re all still processing how the youngest musician on this list, Rihanna, has outdone herself by outshining her superiors, Madonna and Beyonce, or how Kylie continues to ‘beat’ her older sister Kim at her own game. At the end of the day we totally get that it’s no competition. As long as women like Serena continue making history and women like Rihanna carry on showing the importance of representation in makeup and fashion, we will forever and always stan!
