The Africa Fashion Awards took place at the prestigious Melrose Arch in Johannesburg on October 28th. The awards night concluded Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa. With 20 shows over 4 days, the fashion week presented designers from South Africa, Cote D’Ivoire, Mozambique, Cameroon, Rwanda, Angola, DRC, Trinidad, Nigeria and Ghana.
These are some of the top winnings:
- Designer of the year: Africa – Ituen Basi (Nigeria)
- Designer of the year: International – Mimi Plange (Ghanaian-born, American-based)
Both will be featured in the International Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2013

- Emerging designer of the year: Africa – Taibo Bacar (Mozambique)
- Emerging designer of the year: International – Laurence Airline (Cote D’Ivoire-born, Paris-based)
