From the 17th to the 21st of September, British Council Connect ZA is partnering up with Open Book Cape Town, now in its fourth year. Other partners include The Fugard Theatre, The District 6 Museum and other institutions. This festival features UK poet and playwright Francesca Beard in several events, including workshops, panel discussions and poetry events over the five-day celebration.
The festival will feature both local and international authors. This is the perfect occasion to meet and engage with new authors who have joined the literacy landscape, as well as rub shoulders with authors whose work and books you’ve enjoyed over the years.
Francesca, who is known for performing and running workshops around the globe for the British Council, will be involved in:
- the Poetica Slam Techniques workshop on 13 September
- facilitating the Performance Poetry Master Class on 19 September
- sitting on the judging panel for the second Open Book Poetry Slam on 20 September
- performing her own work on the 21st of September
David wa Maahlamela, the author of the indigenous-language poetry called Sejamoledi and Tsa Borala, is also said to make an appearance at the festival on the 20th of September. He will be discussing the politics of literary awards, poetry in general and will be reading his Sepedi poetry.
The Open Book Comic Fest will also be taking place on the 20th and 21st of September where a number of comics will feature.
For a list of events taking place over the five-day festival, email openbooktickets@gmail.com with a list of events you would like to attend. EFT and credit card facilities are available for you to purchase tickets.
