Oscar winner and South African born actress Charlize Theron, the ambassador of the United Nations program on AIDS has pledged her support in the campaign to fight against AIDS. Yesterday, Theron met president Jacob Zuma in Pretoria to discuss strategies that will be implemented to fight the disease that destroyed millions of South Africans. Theron also told the Washington Post ”The world has an ability to usher in an AIDS-free generation”.

According to The New Age article -it stated that South Africa has achieved a reduction of 12% in just the last two years in the number of new infections-from 430 000 to 380 000. Last year more than 8 million HIV tests were done.
With the country that is facing an epidemic of AIDS. The question lies on whether Theron’s personal stamp in the fight against this epidemic will make a difference or not. Only time will tell.
