Upon my arrival at The Coca-Cola Dome – North of johannesburg, where tens of thousand of people came together to bare witness to the long awaited Chris Brown X tour live – I was kindly assisted by one of the Jali Bird crew members, that guided me to where I was supposed to collect my ticket.
As the ten minute countdown began, raving fans were beginning to lose consciousness right in front of me, in excitement for the RnB superstar Chris Brown. I witnessed several people being carried out and rushed to the paramedics area while they were unconscious, all this before the Breezy set foot on stage. This just goes to show just how much love we South Africans have for international artists that come to our shores. The singing sensation walked onto the stage and people went crazy, I personally have never heard so many human beings scream so loud for another human being.
He performed his songs in chronological order, taking us back to when he was still a squeaky-voiced teenager on the rise star. He serenaded his enthralled audience with songs like “Take You Down”, from his sixth album “Exclusive” and some of his latest stuff, like his smash hit ” Loyal” which is still a club banger in South Africa. His entire performance was more of a timeline of who he was and who he is now – musically and fans were singing (and dancing) along to every single song.
The performance lasted no longer than two hours and at the end he sent his shoutouts, firstly to his fans and then to his friend – who was also the guest star at the show – August Alsina. In typical superstar fashion, he threw his cap into the crowd as a token of appreciation to the people that came out, including some who had been camping there since 18:00. As everyone vacated the venue, some people were disgruntled over speculation that he was lip syncing throughout the entire show, while others were satisfied with the performance and are eager to see him back in the country again.
