It’s that time of the year again when it’s appropriate to layer the contents of your wardrobe in one outfit, when night seems to creep into day and waking up feels like self resurrection from a deep coma.

After months of dodging and trying to ”shew” it away with shorts and crop tops, winter’s finally caught up with us.

Besides hogging a spot near the fire place, replacing water for hot chocolate and squashing up next to a stranger in a corner cafe, Cape Town winters are good for one other thing…clothes! Okay, so to be fair Cape Tonians are generally fashion hoggers all year round, dreary weather is just another excuse to dress up.

Currently, on the radar is a lurking trend and fashion fundi must-have, knit jerseys, but once again, Cape Tonians being connoiseurs of vintage, we’re not talking about just ordinary knit-wear, but what I to call , granny chic.

Think, thick, junkie jerseys with retro prints, thick stripes and minimal colours. This may seem like a monotone piece but when paired with high boots or sketchers, a pair of skinnies and a light scarf, looks both chic, comfortable and weather appropriate.

But wait…there’s more! The knitted craze doesn’t end here. Also flooding blogs and  fashion sites are junky, knitted scarves large enough to cover your face and torso, talk about winter ready. Well, each to his own they say.

So if you’re looking to be in this winter, make an upgrade from mom’s closet to gogo’s wardrobe for staple pieces and retro designs.
