The fourth annual Cape Town Electronic Music Festival took place at the Cape Town City Hall this past weekend (6 to 8 February). Local and international DJs, bands, and their fans graced the beautiful venue to celebrate decades of the fastest evolving music genre of our time.

The star-studded line-up boasted dynamic acts, each performing on one of the two stages, one in the grand auditorium and another the at the right wing of the City Hall. We enjoyed spectacular sets by both new and accomplished practitioners of the genre. Among the veterans was the legendary UK-based Charles Webster, who performed to busloads of loyal fans. His slot on Sunday evening saw a full terrace and a long line of attendees waiting to be granted access once the floor cleared up – let’s just say it was a long wait.  The Christian Tiger School duo, who surfaced on the scene in 2013, garnered much support from their hometown on the night.  They too filled up the outside venue. South African house DJ, Culoe De Song, being true to form, also did not disappoint. At the end of his hour-long set, in which he featured, among others, his new track with Thandiswa Mazwai, “Nguwe”, left a trail of exalting fans. The only disappointing set was Felix Laband. His set proved rather abstract and lagged behind the pace of the others over the weekend.

Load-shedding stuck to schedule and took place between the hours of 6 and 8pm throughout the weekend, but this did not affect the show. Everything went smoothly, thanks to the event’s airtight backup. A host of food trucks were decked out at the back of the building. They offered everything from  vegetarian bugetts to gourmet hot-dogs and ensured the masses were fed and wanted for nothing.

All these elements led to the ultimate success of the CTEMF 2015, and we have a lot more to tell you. We caught up with some of the performers from each night and brought it all home to you.
