News broke out this weekend about Drake and Rihanna’s official hook up! The Canadian rapper and Barbados beauty are through with the casual hook ups and have made their relationship a sealed deal. Could they be the next power couple? Well, perhaps they could be. Both are very successful artists with stable careers and I personally think Riri could teach Drizzy a thing or two about his fashion sense (haha)!

Most people are suckers for celebrity hook-ups . We love idealizing our celebrities and can’t help but wonder how they’re going to look on the red carpet or how they’re babies will look as well. I won’t lie, when Drake and Riri hooked up, it was a “FINALLY!” moment for me. If you remember, the two looked super cosy and lovey dovey in their music videos ”Whats My Name” and ”Take Care”.  They looked like a match made in heaven and they could live up to the ”’power couple” status , if it lasts.

I’ve found it quite thrilling to have ”power couples” in our era of celebrity life. Having two entities from the entertainment industry – or whichever background  it may be-  come together has an influence on the way we form our relationships. We have a variety of celebrity power couples from over the world- like Jay Z and Beyonce, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian and our very own Kabelo and Gail Mabalane . And whenever they are a part of something we may be interested in ,we cant help but listen and praise them.

Our very own stars embrace the “power couple” status without being too crude about it. Kaizer Chiefs Captain Itumeleng Khune and Presenter/ Actor Minnie Dlamini have been at it for a couple of years and they display the elements of a perfect love story. Both are successful beings in their own right, and seem to have all the right ingredients (such as happiness and commitment) in their relationship. I wouldn’t mind getting a man who’s made and respected, not just for my credibility, but I think it just feels good to be with a partner who is assertive and eager to be a successful in life. Together you can love, influence, encourage and grow as one.

So are power couples influential? I say “yes” and aspiring to get a compatible partner shows you want to achieve more as an individual -and there’s less room for bitterness in a relationship like that. So lets hope Riri and Drake keep the fire burning and “take care” of each other.
