A young woman by the name of Karabo Mokoena was reported to have been murdered by her man yesterday, after she had been missing since April 28. The hashtags #RIPKarabo and #MenAreTrash trended on Twitter yesterday as Twitter users discussed patriarchy and the trashy ways of men, and sent condolences to Karabo’s family.
Not everyone was on the same side however. A counter hashtag #NotAllMen also trended as some users mansplained how it’s not all men who are trash.
In 2015, Live SA did a news report for eNCA about street sexual harassment, which is another entry into the book of men’s trashy ways. One man on the video says it’s how women dress that makes men catcall women.
Live SA contributor, Asanda Gura finds out what men and women think of catcalling. She also talks to feminist writer, Dela Gwala and attorney Sanja Bornman.
Watch the full news report below, and dare you to say #NotAllMen again.
