The Fish and Chip Company was two hours away from releasing a new commercial depicting President Jacob Zuma and his family having dinner, when the SABC reportedly banned the advert. The ad would have been aired nationally on SABC from the 26th November 2012 until Febuary 2013, The Star reported.
“degrading to the president” served as reasoning for the animated commercial ad being banned, says Paul Warner, the creative director at Metropolitan Republic Group, the agency that made the ad. Warner further reported to other newspapers that no complaints about the ad were received and he does not understand how the ad could be offensive.
Further allegations were made, stating that the SABC took a unilateral approach and excluded the public from making that decision, Times Live.
