Yet another alleged case of bullying in South African schools has caused a grade 11 pupil to shoot and kill a fellow pupil on Tuesday, 20 November 2012.
The Grade 11 pupil at Phineas Xulu Secondary School in Vosloorus, East Rand, was said to have taken his mother’s firearm to school and shot dead a pupil he accused of bullying him.
Spokesperson Charles Phahlane said the pupil’s mom was a metro police officer and the boy had used her official firearm to kill his peer.
The learner is alleged to have been tormented repeatedly by a grade 10 student and two other boys, who are allegedly said to have taken his cap and cell phone on Monday. The shooting is said to have taken place when another confrontation took place on Tuesday.
Psycho-social counsellors & representatives from faith-based groups to come to the school to tend to students who witnessed the shooting and may have experienced trauma.
