After a two-month hiatus (if I’m not mistaken), to the despair of heads, music-lovers, fun-lovers, and likers of things, the KOL series of parties/gigs was announced to be sadly coming to an end by Kool Out Entertainment.
The series has been going on since May 2008. It was a free platform for underground hip hop artists, lyricists, poets, and hip hop lovers to come together and share their love for hip hop without commercial music influences. It was by far the classiest and professionally-run hip hop event in Cape Town.
To end the series in pure style, the crew hosted SA hip hop star, Reason who is currently signed to Motif Records, and is part of Kool Out Entertainment himself alongside DJ Akio, DJ Raiko, and DJ P Kuttah. It was great having all four members under one roof.
The series has, in the past years, hosted several up-and-comers and the cream of SA “underground” hip hop – the likes of Il Skillz, N’Veigh, Mingus, and Fifi, just to mention a few.
The Kool Out Entertainment crew has hosted international acts such as Blu, People Under The Stairs, Ras Kaas, DJ Babu (Dilated Peoples), and more. They are also responsible for the annual Cape Town’s Most wanted series of gigs. Though, slowly shifting their focus to Jo’burg, the crew will still carry on with such initiatives in Cape Town, so no bitterness 🙂
For over three years, KOL has been one of my favourite hip hop series of shows and it’s saddening that it’s coming to an end.
