Pitches! Briefs! Interviews! 1st drafts! 2nd drafts! 2nd draft 2.0! Detail! Tighten! Deadline! These are words I’ve grown accustomed to. Adjusting is no easy job kids but as Charles Darwin wisely stated, “Adapt or die”!

As I sit behind my laptop thinking about my short yet interesting time spent at live, I cant help but smile. There are so many memories already and as I’ve stated, its only been like a month and a few weeks.

Please note, my heading says Kyle’s time so expect it to be all about me! I enjoy long walks in my dreams, sleeping and breathing in harmonies . . . Ok no. I’m kidding.

I’ve never experienced being thrown into the deep end as intensely as I have here at Live(figuratively- yes I’ve been thrown in physically, thanks Uncle Michael).As a matriculant just out of high school I knew I was “gap-yearing” it(long story) and I knew I couldn’t just sit around doing nothing so I sat around doing exactly that(mass of contradictions I am). Then I got bored. I knew that being a journalist was always my dream and I was like, “Hey! get your shxt together and do something about it!”(yes I talk to myself).That’s when this exhilarating opportunity struck me on the hand. My interview to get a position in LIVE Magazine was gruelling!3 days later I got the post! Then after that I remember talking and trying and doing- its all a blur.

LIVE Magazine is no joke yet its like nothing you’ve ever done before(if Lee, my mentor, was reading this she’d probably say, “Not enough detail- elaborate more BUT keep it tight”). Seriously, you become so transport-savy( I have officially taken a train, a bus AND a taxi!). Now you have to understand this is a big deal for me because I’m a kid from the safe dwellings of Pinelands.

The LIVE office is never quiet! There is ALWAYS an uplifting sound of youthful giggles( and by giggles I mean loud, overpowering, almost dying kind of sounds.). This does not mean we don’t get our work done. This team is so dedicated. On the stress bar I would estimate that we’re all sitting on 6 out of 10 which isn’t bad for the Work load placed on our shoulders. What makes this experience more enjoyable is that not everyone has a journalism background so we’re all kinda in the same boat and those that do have that background are so mockingly helpful, it only leads to more laughter.

I’ve learnt a substantial amount of journalism traits one needs to possess in this field, it’s will power, perseverance, determination, ambition, a minimum of 3 back up plans and respect for the craft.

I would not give up this experience for anything in the world and I would go back to relive it. Not to change, alter or delete, just relive.

I am grateful, humbled and blessed to be apart of this team.
