Sometimes I wish life came with a navigation system that has a precise guidance mechanism, along with voice prompts on how to navigate our way through the sharp curves and dead ends that we encounter, but I guess thats what people look to a higher power for.

Anyway, one thing’s for sure, I’m happy that there are navigation tools available to help negotiate these chaotic streets. As a young driver in Johannesburg, who’s always out on the road, I’m always in pursuit of my next job opportunity, the latest trendy spot, doing out-of-office meetings or bundu bashing on that long awaited holiday with friends. Having a tool to help me get to these locations easier, faster and safely helps a great deal, it make you look professional and affords you more time to spend with your loved ones on holiday.

Meet the Tom Toms Start 40 Nav device – basic, compact and delightfully easy on the eye.

The Good

The unit has a great vivid interface, with a 4.3” touch screen that displays colours beautifully and responds very well. I don’t recall having to double tap for any command and the battery life on this unit is also impressive. It packs enough juice to make a round trip around town and we know how draining that can be.

The Bad

The colour display might be excellent but the screen resolution is a bit low and it took a few too many seconds to find my location. I guess subscription to some features does mean you might have to make provisions for it in your monthly budget, which might be one added expense you might not appreciate.

All in all the performance of this unit is excellent! and priced from R1 500, its worth the buy, we give this 4 Live bubbles.
