Nowadays, it’s really hard to put artists into a specific genre, for this reason you have people coming up with their own genres from Trip-Hop and Futuristic Neo-Soul to  Robotic RnB and Psychedelic Pop.

We don’t really care what they call their music; all we care about it is whether or not it’s good.

LIVE’s Lethabo Afrika Bogatsu gives you a playlist of some out of the box musicians that we think you should give a listen to. We promise you won’t regret it.

Kelela

It’s pretty difficult to choose a favourite from the EP, but “Floor Show” (produced by Girl Unit) is a definite must listen. Her sound is sexy and trippy with lyrics like “You forget my name, but you say it every night.”

Sampha

This 24-year-old singer-songwriter and producer has worked with the likes of SBTRKT, Jessie Ware and most recently Drake. His solo projects “Sundanza” (2010) and his latest “Dual”, which was released in July this year, are testament to the fact that he is so much more than just a feature artist. “Dual” is filled with melancholic melodies that inspire memories of the past and near future. The emotion that comes through  “Can’t get close”- sung for his late father, is hauntingly honest and yet relatable to anyone who’s lost someone close to them.

AlunaGeorge

You most probably know them from Disclosure’s White Noise and their recent video.  This London-based duo made up of vocalist Aluna Francis and producer George Reid are making waves with their new album “Body Music”. Aluna brings a softness to the edgy beats that George comes up with, they make a really good team. Check out their new video for their latest single “Best Be Believing”
