Luxury Swiss watch manufacturer Rado is giving South African design students or recent graduates an opportunity to get international recognition. And up for grabs for the winner is a R100 000 prize money, an iconic Rado watch and a blog on the design section of Rado.com during 2015. As part of it’s sponsorship of the World Design Capital Cape Town 2014 they are bringing their internationally renowned competition Rado Star Prize to South Africa. The competition is open to all forms of design as long there is a social benefit.
Architectural designers need to think along the lines of a design that can shelter school children from the sun or rain while waiting for the bus, while fashion designers need to make crossing the road much safer. The manufacturer is looking for any design that seeks to add value to individuals and communities while being beautiful and functional at the same time.They believe that design has the power to improve the lives of individuals and communities in the different shapes and sizes it can take.
