Local Hip Hop music is transcending barriers across South African borders, and just like American Hip Hop artists, Mzansi artist’s such as Riky Rick, AKA, K.O and Cassper Nyovest have succeeded at capturing the minds and hearts of many music lovers.

Live SA was invited to a listening session of Riky Rick’s new album titled “Family Values”, held at Bang & Olufsen head office in Bryanston, North of Johannesburg, the setting made perfect sense, quality music complimented by quality audio players.

Riky played a few tracks from his album to the delight of the guests, after his introduction and tale about his inspiration for the album. We particularly like ‘Wonder Years’ which in our opinion is by far going to be the latest hot club banger plus it features Cassper Nyovest and future mfana OKMalumKoolKat.

“It was never about being accepted or playing a club banger, it’s about me putting all emotions about my life’s lessons and encounters. The album is not a self-dedication to my family but many other families out there who can relate to my story being told through good music” – Riky Rick

The artwork for the album cover is Riky posing with his son Maik, an iconic symbol of the importance of family. He says the artwork was inspired by The Game (An American rapper), “Conceptually I wanted to keep the artwork simple and yet impactful enough to get the message of the importance of family across. My son means everything to me and all that I do is to ensure that he has the best possible future. It was a no brainer to pose with my baby boy for this album cover” said an emotional Riky.

Family Values is quite an emotional album with a touch of turn up tunes for control. He produced 80% of the album himself, and only worked with his friends in production. Riky Rick further admitted that his story makes his music different from the likes of others and that he has never performed slow songs but wouldn’t mind the challenge.
