Over the past weekend, Capetonians (mostly youth) marked the two years since the Marikana Massacre occured in with a series of commemorative events. The ‘Marikana Poetry Procession’ on Thursday proceeded with a march that started at St George’s Mall and ended later in the day at Church Square. The poetry procession focused on the recitations of poems that were written for and about Marikana. A march to Cape Town police station also happened, after which the Miners Shot Down DVD was handed over to the policemen present. A slow march through the train station soon commenced, followed by an emotional night vigil. On Saturday, just about 100 people marched from the Philipi train station to the Philipi police station.
