In the age of Pop Culture, we see the growth of a subculture of Sneaker Heads, a group of young stars that hunt for the rarest and dopest kicks.  The culture went from people just buying to actually collecting sneakers. Social media played a big part in the growth of the culture, having shows like Mkay Fresh’s Hunting for kicks on Youtube and on Instagram, tumblr and facebook people upload pictures of themselves wearing their favourite pair and showcasing their collection.

And now there’s a Sneaker festival which was started by Siyamazi Khathola and Thabang Mncabe. After studying the sneaker culture in London from 2011, they were amazed at what guys in Crepe City were doing.  So that’s when it dawned on the pair to try do the same thing in SA. The Sneaker festival is about collectors coming together to be ‘schooled’ and to also ‘school’ other sneaker lovers on the history of sneakers and is also a great way to network and share information on where to get the latest and limited edition kicks.
