The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Athletics are well under way and South Africa’s being well represented. Our very own, Godfrey Khotso Mokoena has qualified for the final of the men’s long jump with the second furthers leap of 8.16m. Sadly, fellow local, Zack Visser only managed a best effort of 7.79m, missing out on the final. The final will be held on Friday, 16th at 17:30 SA time.

Tensions rise on the soccer field as Orlando Pirates have employed a new strategy by signing striker Thamsanqa Gabuza (26) from Golden Arrows. However, Gabuza will have to compete against Collin Mbesuma, Ndumiso Mabena and Lennox Bacela for a coveted spot on the team.

In rugby, the beloved Springboks will be competing against Argentina at the FNB stadium on Saturday. The spotlight will be on Willie le Roux, who was rewarded a spot on the Boks for the three Tests in June after a superb performance for the Cheetahs at the Super Rugby competition.
