We headed out into the trendy streets of Braamfontein recently, on the lookout for fashion-forward people whose sense of personal style would help make up our “Street Style” segment. It was an interesting experience, that introduced us to some interesting personalities, that varied from sophisticated fashionistas to spontaneous divas, and even a Buddhist student who makes his own clothing. Encounters like these are the best way to truly see the magic that happens when creativity is able to thrive.

LiveSA_streetstayle_OratileMothlabane_04.2015_001It’s always great to see what people are wearing, and where fashion is going locally, because you really get a sense of the culture and art. It is especially commonplace to see everything from extravagant to subtle and chic in terms of style on the streets these days. With the rise of the newly established fashion capital in the CBD, and the development of upmarket fashion & lifestyle boutiques, hipsters and trendsetters converge on the kaleidoscopic urban landscape, to add a burts of colour to the usually glum exterior of the high-rise building and traffic-filled streets.

LiveSA_streetstayle_OratileMothlabane_04.2015_002These fashion savvy people, whose expressions of style are anything but ordinary, are contributing to South Africa, or Joburg’s place rather in the world. It’s a different culture; not of languages or class types, but of textures, flavours, and all sorts of  accents and colours that pop, burst, and block.

It seems a revolution is underway.
