Lauren Campbell – a 20-year-old Capetonian blogger and student – ensures that her garments are authentic by wearing South African designs. “I can’t stand it if another person is wearing the same outfit,” she explains. “My style changes with my mood and it depends on the occasion. I get inspiration online or just by looking around me.”
Her favourite place to shop is a local family-owned business. “My favourite place right now is Milq and Honey Fashion House. I just love the whole concept of a spa and fashion in one place. The designers Kelly and Gabriella Davids gave such great spirits. They just make shopping feel amazing. I could stay there all day.”
Lauren’s tip for aspiring fashionistas is that you should understand what works for you and what doesn’t. “I think it’s important to know your body shape and to know what looks good on you. Make sure that your clothes also suit your skin colour,” she suggests.
Lauren adores shoes and accessories and confesses that she has a shoe library that mainly consist of heels. “Accessories are important but don’t overdo it! I always try to match my accessories to the details in my outfit.”
He says her family sparked her interest in fashion. Her grandfather had his own factory, and her cousins are successful hairstylists and fashion designers. “At a young age, my mother allowed me to pick my own clothes, allowing me to be free and to express myself,” recalls Lauren.
The one item Lauren can’t live without is her Michael Kors handbag. “I can’t live without my everyday handbag. I have everything in there, I’m sure I can survive in the wilderness with it.”
