Friends; we are friends to many people, we have them and sadly, we lose them. Despite whatever the central theme of your favorite show might be, friendship (like love) remains a constant. Although many of these friendships are fictional, over the years, we have come to think of them as though they were real. Rooting for them when they were up, feeling a little sad when they were down and cringing a little when things got awkward. We at Live have a compiled a list of some of our favourite BFF’s (best fictional friendships). In no particular order:

1. Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen [Gossip Girl]: Even though this was one of TV’s most tumultuous friendships, Blair and Serena’s eventual BFF status showed just how strong a good friendship can be. They broke up more times than a few Hollywood couples combined but they somehow always managed to find their way back to each other. Chessy, I know. But they will always be one of our favorite best fictional friendships.

2. Christina Yang and Meredith Grey [Greys Anatomy]: Best. Fictional. Frienship. Ever! Okay, maybe I am being a little biased on this one but anyone who has watched Grey’s Anatomy can agree. Christina and Merdith’s ride or die friendship helped them coin the term “my person” and I am still quite jealous that I don’t have a Meredith Grey to my Christina Yang. A lot of scenes depicting their friendship play out in bed – Christina and Meredith, laying side by side looking like they’re not moving for another 6 hours. Which is usually what my friends and I do when we’re not partying or working (like these two).

3. Vinny Chase and Eric Murphy [Entourage]: The kind of friendship that all boys secretly wish they had – Vinny and Eric are living the dream. Fame, fortune and women (and all the debauchery that comes with it). Need I say more?

4. Carrie Bradshaw and Samantha Jones (and Charlotte and Miranda) [Sex and the City]: These two were Christina and Meredith before Christina and Meredith were Christina and Meredith. The only difference being that Samantha and Carrie brought a touch of glamour to it all. For seven seasons and two movies (and later, a prequel), fans lived vicariously through these women and learned that “maybe your girl friends are your soul mates, and guys are just people to have fun with.”

5. Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable [Kim Possible]: Ron was in the friendzone long before we even found the time to give it such a lame name. In between all that kick-ass teen espionage, I guess they served as the example for why it’s not always a bad thing to fall in love with your friend.

6. Sabrina Spellman and Harvey Kinkle [Sabrina the Teenage Witch]: They were basically another Kim and Ron situation, just switch out the espionage for magic.

7. Joan Clayton, Lynn Searcy and Mýa Wilks [Girlfriends]: Often referred to as SATC for black women, Girlfriends was a favourite among many and it still is to this day. All the personalities depicted on the show as well as what role their friendship played in all the significant and not-so-significant things that happened in their lives

8. Mona Thorne and Spencer Williams [Half and Half]: They started out as friends and he practically became a part of their family. When she realized that she liked him, he was with someone else. When she decided to tell him how she felt, she realized the meaning of the term “bad timing.” When he realized that he liked her, she was with someone else. We never got to find out how things went with them but through it all, they remained good friends.

9. Rachel Green and Monica Gellar [Friends]: These two are probably the reference point for the idea of what it is like when two girls are friends with each other. Besties since high school, sleepovers, there for every milestone in each other’s lives (including being each other’s brides maids) and the God mother to each other’s children.  After all, they were on a show called “Friends.”

10. Barney Stisnon, Ted Mosby and Marshall Eriksen [How I Met Your Mother]: Another kind of friendship that the men in your life will (at some point if they already haven’t) use to illustrate their own real-life friendship. What they refuse to see is that no matter how hard they wish, this will never be true.

11. Will Smith and Jazz [The Fresh Prince of Bel Air]: Day-one ni****s on the show and in real life, Will and Jazz show just what can happen when you don’t forget where you come from.
