As part of Live SA’s VIP Youth Festival, taking place on June 16, we will be screening some of our best video work at Guga S’thebe in Langa, Cape Town.

We will then hold an engaging discussion about the issues raised by each video piece. All these videos were made by young people of South Africa on issues that are close to their hearts. You will get an opportunity to ask them what exactly inspired them to make the pieces.

One such young person who’ll be showcasing her work is Live alumni Simamkele Matuntuta. Watch the video below and find out what she has prepared for you.

Among our own video content, we will also screen two films by Cape Town filmmakers. These will be:

Keys, Money, Phone (a short film by Roger Young)

Roger Young’s hilarious take on both white and male priviledge, Keys, Money, Phone won a Best South African Short Film award at this year’s Durban International Film Festival. Young will be taking questions after the film and just taking us through this brilliant piece of work.

Jas Boude (a short documentary by Imraan Christian and Georgina Warner)

Imraan Christian and Georgina Warner use skateborading to show how Cape Town is a city that only works for a few. The film follows a legion of skateboarders from the Cape Flats into the CBD and we get to hear the young people’s take on the city.
