He’s still an 18 year old Grade 11 pupil from Buhlebuzile High School in Thokoza in the East Rand Johannesburg but Lindokuhle Sobhekwa has already set his standards high and wants to tackle the world of photography by its horns.

He’s inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Kutlwano Moagi, Bike DepoorterCyprien Clement-Delmas and Tjorven Bruyneel. Lindo would like to be represented by Magnum Photos agency (an agency representing exclusive and well-known professional photographers from around the world) and would like to see himself featured in Forbes as one of the highest  paid photographers of all time. He would like to be commissioned for exclusive high end jobs commissioned by the likes of CNN, the BBC and the New York Times.

His love of photography was ignited by a Soul and Joy Project, an initiative that was brought to his school in an attempt to find different array of talents from students giving them a platform and an opportunity to expose and ignite their talents to the world. It’s safe to say that the definitely have. His motto is to “never be afraid to take big challenges and have hope,” and this kid clearly lives by the motto “you either you go big or you go home.”

Lindo says that he wants his photographs to show a raw and real representation of events rather than made-up, fluffy versions. In a soul-searching and self-taught mode, he started by going around shooting anything that looked interesting. He explores the different options and learns about angles, focuses and the differences between analogue, digital and film. He now knows how to let his pictures speak a thousand words.

When not making people strike a pose or letting stationary objects be, he’s a real Pantsula fanatic that dances to the sounds of “staliano”, a Pantsula dance move. He says he would like his work to speak volumes and and be an inspiration to young and upcoming photographers.
