Although the exact prevalence of rape in South Africa is  difficult to quantify, according to Africa Check, approximately  444,384 rapes occurred in the year 2012/13. Though this is nearly half the number sensationally reported on by rape advocacy grouping Blow The Whistle; and despite the fact that Africa Check ran another study pouring cold water on the myth that South Africa is the rape capital of the world, SA continues to have shocking rape statistics year on year. As young people are at the sharp end of this predicament and are the target audience of various sex education campaigns meant to curb the occurrence of rape and raise awareness about its prevalence, Live VIPZA hit the streets to ask young people in Johannesburg what kind of measures or ideas they truly believe need to be put in place to beat rape in SA.
