Ever watched the news and wondered – what about the youth perspective on that story?  Well, we at LiveSA – young reporters from around the country – are busy making just that: news for a national audience – from a fresh angle. We’re creating stories about issues that affect us: from cyber bullying to how we are treated at public clinics; from connecting with our traditional African roots to re-inventing the township tour. And what’s more, national news network eNCA are broadcasting them on their news channel: DSTV 403!

Student Debt

Education is a vital part of beating unemployment, making sure South African young people can better themselves and promoting access to opportunities. In a time when the cost of living is quite high however, education, sadly, is also expensive to access. This forces many young people go to great lengths to educate themselves. And with more and more students and graduates taking out loans to do so, how do they go about paying it all back? Does this create a debt cycle that young people ultimately struggle to get out of? With the recent troubles at NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme),  is it easy to get help from the government? How do young people cope under the pressure?

Live investigates.

How does student debt affect you or the people around you? Do you have an experience with NSFAS you’d like to share?
